ITV HUB is soon to be replaced by ITVX a brand new service as part of a massive upgrade. From the 28th of September 2022, some people will start to see a popup message informing them of changes to the service. Some of these changes may affect you and some devices you use will no longer support the new service.
Brands to be affected by the upgrades includes some Chinese brands
Freeview devices such as Avtex and CVTE and some device models from 2016 will be affected including the Hisense MTK5657 and TCL 6586 Series from 2018. The company confirms that you will need to use alternative devices to stay connected. This is a short list and more devices that are not yet confirmed could very well be affected.
For people that are unaffected
The ITV hub app will be replaced by the new app sometime before the end of the year most likely in December. The new app itvx will have improved quality and offer more services for free users with more than 15.000 hours of content. Premium users that are using itvhub+ will also see a merger with the app BritBox in an all-in-1 service. It is unclear if free users will see this merger with ads included.

- Apple TV with min requirements generation 3 and more
- Freesat tv and boxes after generation 2
- Freeview Play
- Now tv services
- Roku devices
- Samsung tv and devices running Tizen OS 2.4 or higher
- Virgin media stream boxes and virgin v6, Virgin TV360
- BT and TalkTalk devices
Advantages of using ITVX
The new plan for this service is to give you a chance to watch new content that has never been seen before it can be seen on the ITV linear channels. There will be something for everyone on ITVX, which will add more fresh content that will be added weekly compared to other British video-on-demand platforms. The new service will be able to stream new program exclusives, which will be ad-supported, for free including some premium ITV dramas, documentaries, US series, comedies, reality shows blockbuster films, and more. A good list of dramas will now stream first and for free on ITVX before arriving six to nine months later on ITV’s broadcast channel, including A Spy Among Friends, starring Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce, Nolly starring Helena Bonham Carter, Confessions of Frannie Langton starring Karla-Simone Spence, Sophie Cookson and Patrick Martins, Lenny Henry’s six-part drama The Little Birds and Litvinenko starring David Tennant with many more to be revealed.
Advantages of a Subscription Service
Subscribers will have full access to the Britbox service without all of the ads interrupting the content and will include extra content from other providers including some of the well-known providers from BBC, Channel 4, and Channel 5. The Britbox app so far has more than 733,000 subscribers that will be automatically moved over to the new platform. The new service will include the biggest streaming collection of UK series such as Classic Doctor Who, forthcoming originals Why Don’t They Ask Evans? and The Dry.
Blockbuster Movies to be aired on ITVX service
Itv plans to stream more than 500 well-known blockbuster movies within the first year of being launched with more than 150 within the database library at one given time. These movies will be completly free to watch and they will constantly refresh the list of movies.
Popular US Series
ITVX will also have content from the USA that is supplied by WarnerMedia International Television Distribution that will include UK premieres of The Sex Lives of College Girls and All American, as well as The OC, One Tree Hill, and select series of The 100, Supernatural and Veronica Mars.
Streaming Big Events Live And Completly Free
The app will continue to stream Sports events such as FIFA World Cup and other events including I’m A Celebrity or the Love Island Final, ITV events are the place for streaming live through ITVX, as they are broadcast on ITV’s channel.
Themed Free Ad-supported TV Channels
The app will offer 20 free channels including ‘Hell’s Kitchen US’, ‘True Crime’, ‘The Oxford Detectives, ’90s Favourites’ and ‘The Chase’, and many others to be added in the future that will run all day and night with a click of a button.
